A 'Siscation' in Asia.

Siscation- Word derived from Sister + vacation.

Hi, all

The upcoming 3 travel posts come with so much excitement and nostalgia, but also with a bit of sadness. The past 2 weeks have been one of the best 2 weeks of my life. Why? Cause I got to do what I love which is travel and also do it with my soulmate-my sister.

My sister and I first travelled together to the UK In 2011 and vowed from that time onward we would make it a ritual to always travel together.

We decided on travelling in Asia this time because I live here and cause its cheaper.  The upcoming 3 travel posts will showcase our 3 travel destinations. So, buckle up and relax as you are about to read about the travelling excursions of 2 different yet interesting sisters.

Siscation Part 1: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The day had finally arrived for me to go fetch my sister at the airport. By now almost everyone who knows me knows how much I speak highly of my sister and also how I'm low-key obsessed with her,
So you can imagine just how overly excited I was to see her and be her tour guide for a week.

The kuala Lumpur itinerary was quite simple: Explore, Eat, Shop and Have Fun! Since I live here it was easy for both of us to get around, but we still however  got lost cause of my poor geography lol. 7 days in Kuala Lumpur is actually quite short as there is so much to do in the buzzing city.

Our first stop after showering and helping my sister settle in my apartment was going to a pop culture market where we eagerly shopped and later had lunch.

Besides shopping at malls, eating and taking endless pictures we went to a few tourist attractions such as the Batu caves-a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples. We knew we werent going to stay for long when we were welcomed or rather traumatised by a few monkeys lol. We also saw the famous twin towers from the KLCC Park where we had our mini photoshoot by the grass.

You can't go to Asia and not go to any China Town right? We arrived in the afternoon so it wasn't as busy as it usually is in the evening. It was a shock for my sister to experience how persistent the locals can be and to be in the midst of all the knockoff items. I personally didn't enjoy being there but the  beautifully decorated Sri Mahamariamman Temple south of China Town made up for it.

Thursday is my favourite day of the week because thats when my weekend commences and also cause its Ladies Night and you know what that means right?

Changkat Bukit Bintang is a trendy long street that offers a variety of restaurants, clubs and pubs. The dancing and club hopping was exactly what we needed after the long day we had in China Town.

Friday was finally upon us! The order of the day was to recover from the evening that was and then get dolled up for Helipad Lounge-36th floor helicopter pad turned into a rooftop bar at night. I was glad my sister loved the 360 degree view of KL as much as I did. The perfect place to unwind over a glass of wine and a great vibe.

From the hilarious conversations with cab drivers, to my sister complaining about the humidity, to overspending, to going on manicure and pedicure dates, to lazing around in my apartment after a long day, Kuala Lumpur with my sister was nothing short of FUN!

Siscation Part 2: Singapore.

Singapore didn't start of on a good note as we had to bear the news of the passing of my 98 year old grandmother. In the spirit of our late grandmother we decided on remaining positive and still enjoying what was left of our 'siscation'.

To be honest, there really isn't much to do in Singapore either than shopping and maybe going to  Universal Studios which we have already visited in Los Angeles. We arrived on the day of the 'Singapore National Day' so this was an advantage as public transport was free. It was however congested and the stares we were getting from locals weren't helping either.

We went to china town for dinner and were amazed by the vast difference between the KL and Singapore China Town. The Singapore China Town is clean and organised as compared to the KL one. The NYC China Town still does it for me though!

After our filling chicken rice and duck meal we decided on having the famous Japanese  green tea gelato for dessert.  One of the best gelato's I've ever tasted!

The following day we headed to Little India for brunch and bought a few items at the stalls. We then headed to Orchard Road where we were stopped for a broadcast interview. (Momma we made it!lol)

We railway hopped once again to Marina Bay where we were defeated by all the designer stores and the bourgei locals. After the long day we had we decided on heading back to the hotel to rest before dinner and some last minute shopping.

Singapore wasn't the best trip but we made the best of our 2 days there especially the times we would blast music in our hotel room and have a dancing marathon lol.

Siscation Part 3: Bali,Indonesia.

BALI! Yes, The very same Bali from the famous 'Eat Pray and Love' book and movie. Our first 2 trips were filed with early mornings and late nights and decided on Bali being our last destination to just relax and unwind from the bustle.

The Bali itinerary was centred around the 'Eat Pray and Love' movie. We stayed in Kuta, a 2 minute walk to the Legian Beach.  Staying in Kuta was convenient as its surrounded by restaurants, pubs, spas and accommodating locals. After showering and unpacking we headed out for dinner at a western restaurant that had the BEST ambience.

I remember uncontrollably laughing at the ATM when my sister withdrew 1.5 million Rupiahs ($108), thinking to myself how could she withdraw such a large amount of cash. But to only learn that the same amount would be finished in 2 days and we would have to go back to withdraw a few millions again-lol it felt so good saying that!

The following morning was filled with tranquility. We were besides the sounds of the waves soaking in the  warm island sun but being disturbed by locals who would want to massage us or sell something of some sort. We still enjoyed our morning by the beach though.

We then had lunch at a different hotel where we met a few tourists who just like us were impressed by the friendly locals and how affordable everything is.

After shopping we decided on going back to the beach in the evening before dinner. I guess the beach wasn't enough, so we went back to the hotel for a swim.

The following day was dedicated to the PRAY segment of the itinerary. We had a driver who drove us to Ubud-cultural town in Bali famous for its art and spirit. Also where most 'Eat Pray and Love' scenes were shot.  Our driver had planned a full day tour for us in Ubud. We first went to a Balinese show in the morning and then went to a jewellery craft shop.

After that we went to a coffee and tea plantation where we learnt about the different teas and coffees, we even had a coffee and tea tasting session. We were so impressed we ended up buying a few for our loved ones.

After being refreshed by the liquids we went to the rice terrace and then travelled to the different temples. One temple that stood out for me was the 'Tanah Lot Temple'- A Hindu Temple set on the big rock surrounded by the seawater. The temple is exceptionally breathtaking! The pictures don't do it any justice.

After that we headed to our last destination to go catch the sunset over a meal at the beach. We unfortunately couldn't stay for a long as my flu was making me feel weak and even more sick. The ride from Ubud to Kuta was exhausting but we had such an eventful day.

When we arrived back to our hotel we showered and headed out for happy hour and an evening of music and dancing.

The following day was unfortunately our last day but spent it with my sisters friends from South Africa. We had lunch at a Mexican restaurant, exchanging stories of our Balinese experience. We then went to another beach for a few minutes and did some last minute shopping.

Bali was an absolute treat! From being called Beyonce and Janet Jackson, to our full body massages and fish spa, to the stares, to thinking we 'ballers', to our late night walks, Bali was everything and more!
